What are the benefits of reading eBooks over paper books? It took me some time to make the conversion from paper books to e-books, but when I made the decision to read a few novels on the Kindle app on my phone, I believe there is simply no turning back. I am unable to think of even one benefit to purchasing paper books. Here are some advantages of e-books.
Benefits of reading eBooks over paper books
1. More eco-friendly
Paper books are produced without using any forests. Every year, printed books are sold in the billions worldwide. Each book is produced in thousands of copies and there are more than two billion separate publications each year. Each year, the United States alone sells almost 700 million printed books; Japan sells almost as many. As a result of the rising use of e-books, only 5 billion books were printed in the EU in 2018 compared to 8 billion ten years earlier.
The number of printed books sold annually worldwide (excluding used books) is unknown, although it is most likely around 10 billion. That's a lot of paper! An area the size of the Netherlands, or four million hectares (40,000 km2 or 15,500 sq. mi) of forest are lost each year as a result of paper manufacture. Printing books, newspapers, and magazines uses around a third of all paper, and about half of those products are utilized in Europe and North America. Everyone switching to e-books would help preserve hundreds of square kilometers of forest.
2. Instant purchase
There's no need to spend time (and money) getting to the bookstore, waiting for the book to arrive, or being there when the mailman comes. As long as you have 4G or Wi-Fi, you may simply buy a new book right now wherever you are (at home, at work, on a train, at the airport, or in a hotel room).
3. Cheaper
Although there are few exceptions, e-books are typically 30 to 50% less expensive than paperbacks and hardcovers.

4. More adaptable
One can choose the font style and size that they choose. No longer do you have to be concerned about ordering a paper book just to discover that it is printed with tiny fonts when you receive it.
5. Simple bookmarks
To add a bookmark, just touch in the top-right corner of the page. There is no need to carry along real paper bookmarks that can fall out and disappear. The page corners don't need to be folded. The best part of all is that e-book readers automatically keep track of the last page you read, allowing you to simply put your book aside without worrying that you'll forget where you left off or lose your bookmark. When you are working on numerous novels at once, it is very beneficial.
6. Read in the dark
No need to leave a reading light on if your companion is sound asleep. Reading from an ebook reader or smartphone is more discrete, and the brightness may be set to react to the ambient light. Consider using your phone's night mode or reading mode to lessen the blue light that might cause eye strain and disrupt sleep cycle.
7. Simple to underline and make notes
I would never underline or make notes on a paper book because I would feel as though I was defiling it in some manner. However, I frequently do that with electronic books because the book is not permanently harmed. It's a wonderful method to recall key passages (which I underline in yellow), discussion-worthy concepts (which I underline in orange), passages that I disagree with (which I underline in red), and maybe new terminology or catchy phrases to remember (in blue).
8. In-built dictionary
allows you to look up definitions of challenging terms by just clicking on them. This is excellent for developing vocabulary in young readers or for those reading books in a foreign language to improve their language abilities. Whenever required, words and sentences in the latter scenario can also be translated.

9. Less clutter
Paper books, let's face it, take up a lot of room. Before I switched to ebooks, I bought so many books that my bookcases were overflowing with them, and I had to pack them into boxes or give them away to make room. E-books don't require any real estate. If they occupy too much memory on a device, they may be deleted with a single click and retrieved from the Cloud whenever necessary.
10. Searchable
Instant searches through the book using keywords and phrases are possible. When you need to cite a section that you read in the past but don't want to search through the complete book for, this is fantastic. Additionally highly helpful for academic or technical texts, as well as anything utilized for research or study.
11. Always present
On my smartphone, I always have my e-books with me. In this way, whenever I have to wait someplace, I never wish I had a book with me to pass the time. I have access to my whole library, and I can add to it on the fly.
12. Free trial
Before purchasing an eBook, I nearly always download a free sample to make sure I'm interested in the book. You can tell if a book is not for you after reading the first chapter, even if the reviews are positive.
Final thought
The EPUB file format is used by practically all e-book readers, so you may purchase the books from the cheapest online retailer and read them on your preferred e-book reading software. Amazon Kindle is the lone exception, as it utilizes its own file format (mobi). With the aid of a specialized tool, Kindle ebooks may be converted to EPUB files, although the process can be cumbersome.
